The traditional Kong is a hollow, hard rubber toy, shaped something like the top of a soft ice cream cone. By smearing a bit of wet dog food, or something else tasty, inside the toy you make it a delicious project that your puppy will probably spend a long time working on. After he's done trying to lick every last bit out of this toy, you can run the Kong through the dishwasher or give it a good scrub. Here's some good advice on making your home a safe haven for your new puppy. Get everything ready for your puppy before you bring him home. First, make a nice bed for him. An old box or durable, chew-resistant basket raised off the floor away from drafts makes an adequate bed for a puppy. Don't spend too much at this stage on an expensive bed he's likely to chew. The inside of the bed should be lined with an old blanket so he can snuggle into something soft and warm.
